I had a moment. That I did.
These lovely lyrics were written by Jayn.
I’ll be uploading the actual cover with the instrumental that I used is by hereson. This person has some very excellent instrumental arrangements worth checking out!
I started sensing something was wrong with my shoulder. I ignored it and kept on swimming.
No but seriously, this is not the same girl we saw in season one.
Korra was arrogant, loud, always willing to fight. She was proud to be the Avatar and she wanted everyone to know it. In this first picture we see her testing the Triple Threat Triad. She knows she’s going to win. She always believed she was going to win because well, she’s the mutha freaking Avatar!
But then we have the shot from this last episode. She’s humbled, quiet, tired of fighting. She feels like she’d failed in some way. Here is the birth of a new generation of air nomads willing to take on the responsibilities of bringing the world balance and peace while she recovers yet she looks so broken. Why? Because that’s her job. I think Korra’s biggest character development is her realizing what being the Avatar is all about.
It’s as if her attitude went from, “Fuck yeah I’m the Avatar!” to “Fuck. Yeah, I’m the Avatar.”
We’ve seen this girl grow from an arrogant bender to a humbled Avatar. If you think Korra is the same as she was in season one, you need to reevaluate your life.
Korra has definitely changed a lot since Book 1, but I don’t think “humbled” is the best word to use to describe the change. “Crushed,” maybe. “Broken,” sure. Whatever you call it, though, the state she’s in currently is not a change for the better.
I don’t think Korra knows what being the Avatar is all about yet, and I suspect that when she figures it out, she’s not going to look like this anymore. She might not be quite as proud as she was at the beginning, but she’ll have gained a true sense of confidence, and she’ll understand that sacrifice and failure are two entirely different things, that what she did was heroic and inspiring to others even if it left her entirely miserable.
Whatever you want to call Korra’s state at the end of Book 3, it isn’t progress. Rather, it’s the lowest point she’s ever been, from which she can open herself to the greatest change.
In other words, this isn’t Korra’s character development. Her character development is what happens next.
